Algeria decided to disband the Algerian League for the Defense of Human Rights (LADDH), said the rights watchdog in a statement on Sunday.
Algiers Administrative Court rendered on Jan. 18 the dissolution decision for non-compliance with the texts governing associations and working jointly with international organizations.
The NGO expressed its astonishment at the modalities of the said decision, which speaks volumes about the lack of independence of the judiciary in Algeria.
Aïssa Rahmoune, Vice-President of LADDH, called this decision arbitrary” and reflective of the dictatorial nature of the Algerian regime.
The Algerian League for the Defense of Human Rights was founded in 1985 to assist victims in need of help, mainly immigrants, religious minorities, peaceful protesters, and political opponents.
