Torridge and West Devon’s MP, Sir Geoffrey Cox KC, voiced his optimism about the project of bringing solar energy from Morocco to the UK via Devon using a giant underwater cable.
The British parliamentarian held talks about the Solar Project with Simon Morrish, CEO of the managing company “Xlinks”.
The MP stressed the importance of the UK diversifying its sources of energy production in an increasingly unpredictable and hostile world.
A consultation and review process is under way at the Gammaton site in preparation for the project.
The Xlinks Morocco-UK Power Project is set to be a new electricity generation facility entirely powered by solar and wind energy combined with a battery storage facility.
Located in Morocco’s renewable energy rich region of Guelmim Oued Noun, it will be connected exclusively to Great Britain via 3,800km HVDC sub-sea cables.
