Morocco’s Building Renovation Agency (ANRUR) developed a plan over 2022-2026 to address the issue of run-down buildings.
According to Minister of Urban Planning Fatima Zahra Mansouri, the agency will undertake an inventory of all derelict buildings in each region, mainly in Casablanca, Rabat-Salé, Essaouira, Tetouan, Marrakech, and Fez.
Answering questions at the lower house, the official noted that nearly 6,000 buildings have been identified in the region of Rabat-Salé, 10,000 in Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, and 4,000 in Casablanca.
Establishing a database of such buildings is hard due to the lack of data, she explained.
The State had invested 7 billion MAD to solve the problem. As a consequence, the situation of 16,000 buildings has been resolved so far.
