Morocco, mainly the countryside of Marrakech, has new appeal for tourists, international travel designer Alex Wix told American business magazine “Forbes”.
Alex Wix, who has lived in Marrakech for ten years and has run the Marrakech-based, multi-awarded travel agency Wix Squared, stated that Marrakech is often included in travel plans, although many people want to explore other parts of Morocco.
Traveling to Morocco is becoming easier from Europe and the US due to direct flights from New York and Miami to Casablanca, which is only two hours from Marrakech and not much further from the surrounding countryside wonders.
According to her, Morocco has a lot of things worth slowing down to watch and appreciate, not only in Marrakech but also in adjacent areas.
She added that the northern industrial zone of Sidi Ghanem, home to innovative brands like the handwoven caftan makers Marrakshi Life and cutting-edge art showplaces such as MCC Gallery, is worth visiting.
Alex shed light on leisure activities in the Atlas Mountains such as trekking, mountain biking, and eating homemade tagine.
Essaouira, a coastal fishing city, has also become a hot destination as it is known for its Jewish history, Portuguese fort, and strong winds, making the crescent beach a popular spot for kite surfing. The city’s popularity has exploded in the past ten years, with foreigners moving in and apartments being reborn as Airbnbs.
The center of Essaouira has grown into a place of international cafés and a bustling medina of its own.
Agafay Desert, less than an hour from Marrakech, is a growingly popular destination for trips that include lunch or dinner. On the dunes, several stylish new accommodations have appeared recently.
