The Nador Appeal Court (north-east of Morocco) upped on Monday the sentences against 13 immigrants by six months, bringing them to three years in prison each, lawyer Mbarek Bouirig told French news agency (AFP).
The 13 immigrants were sentenced in August to two years and a half prison term at the first instance court.
They are prosecuted as part of a tragic event that happened in the summer. Around 2,000 sub-Saharan immigrants had tried last June to storm into Melilla and climb the metal fence. 23 immigrants died as a result of the stampede and asphyxia.
They are sentenced on the charges of taking part in an illegal immigration criminal gang, entering Morocco illegally, and using violence against law enforcement officers, according to the lawyer.
