Statistics and Forecasts Office (HCP) said the household confidence index (HCI) stood at 46.6 points in Q4 of 2022, which is the lowest level since the Permanent Household Business Survey began in 2008.
The latest HCI dropped from 47.4 in Q3 to 46.6, and from 61.2 compared to the same period of the last year.
In the fourth quarter of 2022, 83.1% of households reported a deterioration in their standard of living over the past 12 months, 11.8% said it remained unchanged and 5.1% reported an improvement.
As for the evolution of their financial situation over the past 12 months, 57.8% of households consider that it has worsened, compared to 4.8% in the previous quarter.
In the fourth quarter of 2022, most households (98.9%) said that food prices had increased over the past 12 months. The balance of opinion remained negative, at minus 98.8 points, after being minus 99.1 points one quarter earlier and minus 95.9 points one year earlier.
