The Center for Research on Moroccan Judaism Heritage was recently inaugurated in El’ad city (center of Israel), in the presence of head of the Moroccan liaison office in Tel Aviv Abderrahim Bayoud.
Yehouda Lancry, former Israeli ambassador to France and the UN, honored in his speech the crucial role of Mohammed V in protecting the Jewish community in Morocco, according to website “JForum.fr”.
Lancry also highlighted the exceptional efforts of King Mohammed VI, recalling in this regard how the Hebrew component was underscored in the Moroccan Constitution.
Morocco had implemented large-scale programs to preserve Jewish historical sites and set up Hebrew heritage museums.
The book “Kings of Mercy and Kindness” by Haim Levy, a Marrakech-based Jewish figure, was presented during the occasion. The book tells the story of the Alawite dynasty and its interaction with the Jewish community.
President of Israel Isaac Herzog had expressed in a letter, dated Dec.22, 2022, to King Mohammed VI his gratitude for Morocco’s longstanding defense of Jews.
