The index of world food prices continued its declining trend and dropped by 1.9% in December 2022 from a month earlier, said the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
The same index rose by 14.3% in 2022 compared to 2021, it added.
The FAO Food Price Index averaged 132.4 points in December, 1.0 percent below its value a year earlier. However, for 2022, the index averaged 143.7 points, 14.3 percent higher than the average value over 2021.
The FAO Vegetable Oil Price Index witnessed a significant decline of 6.7% in December.
The FAO Cereal Price Index decreased by 1.9% in December 2022 but is still above the same month of the previous year.
As for the FAO Meat Price Index in December, it dropped by 1.2 from November.
The FAO Dairy Price Index increased by 1.2% in December following five months of consecutive declines.
The FAO Sugar Price Index also rose by 2.4% in December from November.
