The Burkina news agency reported “the loss of confidence” in the French ambassador Luc Hallade.
Burkina Faso sent an official letter to the French Foreign Ministry on Dec.20, 2022, requesting the French authorities to replace the diplomat.
For its part, the French foreign ministry confirmed, on Tuesday, receipt of Burkina Faso’s letter to withdraw the French ambassador.
The French Foreign Ministry commented that this is not standard practice and no public comment will be made in response.
The request portends a further deterioration of ties between France and its former colony, where French Special Forces are still stationed.
The French embassy, cultural center, and French military station in Burkina Faso were attacked on Nov.18, 2022 by enraged mobs. Neighboring country Mali is also pushing for withdrawal of French troops.
