The National Anti-Cold Snap Plan, meant to minimize the repercussions of the current cold spell, targets a population of approximately 795,727 people in 1,816 villages, said Government spokesperson Mustapha Baitas, on behalf of Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit.
Baitas stated, Monday at the House of Representatives, that the intervention targets the inhabitants of remote, mountainous regions, through the mobilization of 3,179 mobile medical units, 164 medical caravans, 3,311 physicians and medical staff, and 863 ambulances.
The plan includes the construction of 760 temporary platforms where helicopters of the Royal Gendarmerie or the Health Ministry can land to provide relief in urgent cases and open up roads clogged with snow.
Measures have been taken to provide immediate medical attention to pregnant women (around 5,487) and ensure housing for the homeless.
Baitas said the authorities will distribute 8,200 ovens and 6,444 tons of subsidized firewood to the affected population.
