Mostafa Terrab, Leila Slimani, and Soufiane El Bakkali are among the top 100 most influential Africans 2022 listed in the “New African” magazine.
This is the most anticipated and discussed annual list of the continent’s brightest and greatest leaders, entrepreneurs, creatives, athletes, opinion-shapers, and change-makers.
Mostafa Terrab, called fertilizer baron, is the chairperson of the state-run Office Chérifien des Phosphates (OCP). Under his leadership, OCP has successfully capitalized on global supply chain challenges, with shipments of fertilizers increasing by 77% in 2022 compared to the same period last year. During this year, the corporation donated fertilizers to several African countries, including Rwanda and Kenya.
Leila Slimani, the Grand Lady of letters, selected in Opinion Shapers list, was chosen for her pathway in journalism, literature writing, and intellectual debates around gender, the question of identity, and today’s fractured world. She is also a French diplomat serving as the personal representative of French President Emmanuel Macron to the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie, and she is the President’s adviser.
Finally, Soufiane El Bakkali, the athlete that broke Kenya’s domination in athletics. After winning his hallmark event in Tokyo, he entered 2022 as an Olympic champion. He set the year’s fastest time in a Diamond League meeting in Rabat in June 2022, clocking just under the eight-minute mark with a time of 7.58.28. He became the second non-Kenyan to win the title and his country’s first in any event.
