Two Moroccan hot destinations, Ksar ElKhorbat and Moulay Bouzerktoune, were listed by the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) as two of the world’s best villages for the year 2022.
The UNWTO list, named the “BEST TOURISM VILLAGES OF 2022”, includes 32 villages from 18 countries.
The award recognizes rural destinations that are embracing tourism as a driver of development and new opportunities for jobs and income, while preserving and promoting community-based values and products.
The best tourism villages were chosen across the five world regions and evaluated by an independent advisory board. Nine criteria for selection were adopted, namely: Cultural and Natural Resources, Promotion and Conservation of Cultural Resources, Economic Sustainability, Social Sustainability, Environmental Sustainability, Tourism Development and Value Chain Integration, Governance and Prioritization of Tourism, Infrastructure and Connectivity, and Health, Safety, and Security.
