The death toll from the fatal blizzard in the United States rose to 65 victims on Tuesday, as record snowfall clogged roadways and hampered rescue efforts, said CNBC News.
Some perished while shoveling snow, while others died because emergency crews were unable to respond quickly to medical emergencies.
According to the National Weather Service, more than 130 cm of snow fell in four days.
Much of the rest of the United States has been impacted by harsh winter weather.
The White House said that US President Joe Biden issued a federal emergency declaration for the state of New York on Monday night, authorizing US government assistance to strengthen state and local recovery efforts.
Starting on December 25, a severe Arctic cold front pounded the Midwest and the eastern United States.
