A major blast ripped through a gas depot, on Thursday at 6.00 p.m. in Mohammedia city (near Casablanca), without causing any casualties.
Mohammedia is home to many gas and hydrocarbon deposits.
Houses near the explosion site were evacuated. Dozens of people living nearby fled, fearing further explosions and toxic fumes.
Media outlets reported that five out of the seven tankers onsite caught fire. Each tanker is loaded with eight tons of gas.
The incident was contained thanks to the concerted efforts of the local authorities, civil defense, elements of Marsa Al-Maghrib, and Lydec.
