Gas consumption in the EU fell by more than 20% in most member countries from August to November compared to the same period in previous years, according to Eurostat.
Between August and November 2022, the majority of Member States’ natural gas consumption decreased. In 18 Member States, consumption exceeded the 15% threshold, with some dropping by more than 40%. Consumption plummeted the most in Finland (-52.7%), Latvia (-43.2%), and Lithuania (-41.6%).
This decline in natural gas usage follows the EU’s decision to produce clean energy, in addition to preserving energy that has become expensive. It also results from curbing Russian gas imports following the onset of the Russia-Ukraine war.
