Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is in Washington for a summit with President Joe Biden to address Congress in his first trip outside the country since the beginning of the Ukraine-Russia Crisis.
This visit is meant to strengthen the military relations between the two states and look for new strategies to face Russia’s operation in Ukraine and Eastern Europe.
During the visit, President Biden will announce a significant new package of security assistance to help Ukraine defend itself against Russian aggression, White House Press Secretary Jean-Pierre said.
“The visit will underscore the United States’ steadfast commitment to supporting Ukraine for as long as it takes, including through the provision of economic, humanitarian, and military assistance”.
Zelenskyy said in a tweet early Wednesday that he is traveling to the U.S. “to strengthen resilience and defense capabilities” of his country.
On my way to the US to strengthen resilience and defense capabilities of 🇺🇦. In particular, @POTUS and I will discuss cooperation between 🇺🇦 and 🇺🇸. I will also have a speech at the Congress and a number of bilateral meetings.
