The Policy Center For the New South revealed that 1.5 Million Moroccan people own cryptocurrency in 2022, with a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of 8612 Dollars per person.
The study conducted by Henri-Louis Vedie under the name “The emergence of the cryptocurrencies in Africa: reality or overvaluation?”, focused on the countries that possess cryptocurrencies in the African continent. 3.5% of the Moroccans have cryptocurrencies, which places them within the top 10, along with Ghana and Tanzania, and in the world’s top 30 in 2021.
The study showed, demographically, that the cryptocurrency users are mostly young people aged 20 to 30 and all surveys showed that they live in big cities such as Casablanca.
Abdeltatif Jouahri, governor of Bank Al Maghrib, announced a draft regulation of cryptocurrencies to supervise their proper use. He stated that cryptocurrencies increased by 120% between July 2021 and June 2022 despite their ban.
