French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna announced, on Friday at a press conference with her Moroccan peer Nasser Bourita, the end of the visa crisis that has been running since September 2021.
France had decided, unilaterally, to halve the visas granted to Moroccan nationals, under the pretext that the Kingdom is reluctant to bring back its citizens who immigrated illegally to France
Colonna’s visit (Dec. 15-16) comes to ease the tension in bilateral relations and prepare for Macron’s visit to Morocco early 2023.
The French top official said that measures have taken in coordination with the Moroccan consular services to resume a “normal activity”.
For his part, Bourita said that Morocco had officially refrained from commenting, out of respect, on a unilateral and sovereign decision.”
Several topics were discussed between the two peers, notably climate change, security and counterterrorism, energy and renewables, sustainable growth and food security.
