U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit kicked off yesterday in Washington with a focus on the vital role of civil society and the strength of the African diaspora communities in the United States.
Head of Govt. Aziz Akhannouch is representing Morocco at the Summit which will run until Dec. 15.
The event features various sessions on topics ranging from trade and investment, to health and climate change, peace, security, governance, and space cooperation.
This edition follows the first one which was held under Barack Obama’s presidency in 2014. The U.S. is trying to demonstrate its enduring commitment to be a better partner for Africa than any other country, especially China.
Delegations from 50 countries and the African Union, including 45 African national leaders, are attending this key summit.
The 2022 U.S.-Africa Business Forum (USABF) will take place on the Summit’s second day. It is hosted by the U.S. Department of Commerce, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and the Corporate Council on Africa, in partnership with the Prosper Africa initiative under the theme “Partnering for a Prosperous and Resilient Future.”
Pres. Biden said in a statement that the summit “will work toward new economic engagement, promote democracy and human rights, advance peace and security, and address challenges such as food security and climate change as well as the pandemic”.
