The Moroccan football team’s triumph on Saturday prompted a wave of congratulations from Heads of State all over the world.
The Moroccan football team defeated Portugal (1-0) as part of the 2022 World Cup quarterfinals and moved to the semi-finals.
Turkiye’s Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Twitter: “from the bottom of my heart I congratulate the Moroccan national team…and the Moroccan brothers for this achievement”.
“Historic! and fantastic! The Atlas Lions are qualified for the semi-finals of the world cup! bravo Morocco”, said Senegal’s president Macky Sall in a tweet.
Israel’s head of state Isaac Herzog tweeted; “I congratulate King Mohammed VI of Morocco and the Moroccan people on the historic achievement in the World Cup. Congrats.”
Chad’s President Mahamat Idriss Deby tweeted: “Historic and extraordinary! The qualification of the Atlas Lions for the semi-finals of the 2022 world is that of all Africa, full support for the representatives of Africa for the grand finale”.
Dubai ruler Mohammed bin Rashed also said on Twitter: “No voice is louder than Morocco’s voice in the World Cup… Congratulations to all Arabs for achieving the Arab dream at the hands of the Moroccan lions”.
Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia also tweeted: “We share the joy of our brothers in the brotherly Kingdom of Morocco.”
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken congratulated the Moroccan team on Twitter saying: “Africa making history and leading on and off the field … I congratulate the Atlas Lions, on their win today and becoming the first African and Arab team to ever reach the semi-finals of the FIFA WorldCup. DimaMaghrib”.
