Culture and art have always played a pivotal role in bringing peoples together and opening doors for dialogue and peace.
Art can have many forms and shapes. It can manifest itself through colors and texture and be incorporated even in clothes and gowns.
In this spirit, the Russian House/the Russian Cultural Center in Rabat hosted on Wednesday an exhibition by the Moroccan Association of Art for Culture and Creativity, to capture the specificities of the Moroccan and Russian civilizations and cultures, under the theme “Distinctive and common features of national traditional costumes”.
This event, slated Dec. 7-12, turned a spotlight on both Moroccan and Russian traditional clothes and accessories. On the Moroccan side, models were wearing Caftans, Djellabas, Mlahfa, and Jebli Dress. As for the Russian side, they were in Russian dresses called Sarafan with Kokoshnik on their heads, or in simple dresses with aprons.
In this gallery, the Russian House and the Association of art for culture and creativity exhibited traditional dresses and paintings, sang songs, read poems, and offered Moroccan cookies and tea.
Commenting on the event, director of the Russian Center of Science and Culture Peter A. Iakhmenev said “this event is a real illustration of the dialogue between Moroccans and the Russian diaspora in the Kingdom. The traditional costumes showcased today in the gallery are meant to ensure a convergence of the two cultures. Our Center is always open to similar events, to bring people together and closer. We get to know new faces, and greet them in the Moroccan way by saying Marhaba Bikoum”.
In a friendly gesture, the association of art for culture and creativity donated two paintings to the Gallery of the Russian Center.
