The Upper House voted unanimously, Tuesday, on draft law No. 86.21 on firearms and their parts, components, accessories, and ammunition.
Interior minister Abdelouafi Laftit said the bill is aimed at overcoming the legal issues related to firearms, adding that the preparation of this bill is in line with the technological development of crime forms posing security threats, according to MAP.
The minister highlighted that the bill seeks to meet the needs of various stakeholders involved in the use of firearms, pointing out that the Dahir issued on March 31, 1937 and governing the use of firearms has become outdated.
The minister concluded by saying that the bill enables Morocco to honor its international commitments in order to curb the illegal manufacturing and trafficking of firearms, and control licenses and related data.
