German police conducted nationwide raids and detained 25 people, on Wednesday, including members of a far-right “terror organization,” suspected to be plotting an attack on the parliament, said the federal prosecutors.
The raids were conducted against alleged members of far-extremist group “Citizens of the Reich” (Reichsbuerger) movement who were thought to have “made concrete preparations to violently force their way into the German parliament with a small armed group”, said Germany’s federal public prosecutor in a statement.
The Reichsbuerger movement includes neo-Nazis, conspiracy theorists, and gun enthusiasts who reject the legitimacy of the modern German republic. It has become increasingly radical in recent years, and was labeled as a growing security threat.
