Five Memoranda of Understanding on the Morocco-Nigeria pipeline project were signed, on Monday in Rabat, by Morocco, Nigeria, Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Ghana.
The signatory parties are the Moroccan Office of Hydrocarbons and Mining (ONHYM), the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), the PetroGuin of Guinea Bissau, the National Oil Company (SONAP) of Guinea, the Petroleum Directorate of Sierra Leone (PDSL), and the Ghana National Gas Company Limited (GNGC).
This project will have major economic benefits on the sub-region by ameliorating the living conditions of the populations and supplying gas sustainably and in an eco-friendly fashion. It is expected to foster Africa’s clout economically, politically, and strategically.
The gas pipeline will be installed along the West African coast of Nigeria, through Benin, Togo, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Gambia, Senegal, Mauritania, and Morocco. It will be linked to the Maghreb-Europe gas pipeline and the European gas network.
