US Ambassador to Morocco Puneet Talwar attended, Saturday in Beni Mellal, the swearing-in ceremony of 49 Peace Corps volunteers.
This graduation crowns an 11-week language and cultural training program, and is a first since the program resumption after the pandemic subsided.
The volunteers will relocate to host villages across the country where they will undertake service projects to promote peace and friendship, and support the youth development agenda, under the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication.
In his remarks, the Ambassador invited the volunteers to immerse themselves in the local community and deepen the already strong people-to-people ties between the United States and Morocco.
The Moroccan group represents the largest number of Peace Corps volunteers in the world. The Kingdom was one of the first countries to accept volunteers in 1963, just two years after President John F. Kennedy established the Peace Corps in 1961.
