King Mohammed VI inaugurated, on Monday, Rabat’s new bus station totaling 245 mln MAD (22,7 mln dollars).
The project seeks to upgrade and innovate inter-city transportation and enhance the capital’s image and attractiveness.
The project was launched in 2017 and constructed over around 8 hectares. It comprises 46 bus platforms and 22 bus parking lots. The old station had only 38 platforms.
The newly-inaugurated facility has an outdoor parking for cars and taxis, a drop-off area, catering areas, shops and a commercial center housing 40 shops. It can receive more than 10,000 passengers per day, as opposed to 6000 passengers for the old station.
The station is a new-generation structure that offers direct access to the Rabat-Casablanca highway. It uses the information system to receive and guide passengers, optimize logistics and passenger transfer, facilitate ticket acquisition and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
On the sidelines of this inauguration, the Sovereign met with Audrey Azoulay, Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on the preservation of intangible heritage.
