King Mohammed VI received, Wednesday at the Royal Palace in Rabat, UN Secretary General António Guterres, in the presence of Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and UNSG Special Adviser Miguel Graca.
The UN Secretary-General expressed his gratitude to the King for the success of the 9th Forum of the Alliance of Civilizations, held in Fez and crowned by the adoption of a solid Declaration.
The UN Chief praised the Monarch’s ongoing commitment to promote the values of openness, tolerance, dialogue, and respect for differences. He also lauded the continuous contribution by the Kingdom to peacekeeping efforts to foster stability and boost development.
The dispute over the Moroccan Sahara was also discussed in light of UN Security Council Resolution 2654, adopted on 27 October 2022.
In this regard, the Sovereign reaffirmed Morocco’s unchanging position to solve this regional conflict based on the autonomy initiative, under the Kingdom’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Sovereign reiterated the Kingdom’s support for efforts by the Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy Stafan De Mistura to pursue the political process, and for the MINURSO to respect the ceasefire.
