Algerian public prosecutor demanded the death penalty for the 70 suspects involved in the murder of Djamel Bensmail, who was burned alive and mutilated over the accusation of being the arsonist of the Kabylia region.
A devastating forest fire broke out last August in the Kabylia region and caused the death of more than 90 persons and a lot of damages.
The public prosecutor required also a sentence of 10 years imprisonment for 25 others for filming the video of the killing and sharing it on social media.
Djamel Bensmail, aged 38, had volunteered in the Tizi Ouzou region (northwestern Algeria) to extinguish the fire that ravaged the region. Because he was a foreigner, locals accused him of setting fire to the forest and attacked him. Though he turned himself in to the police, Bensmail was released to the angry mob who burned him alive.
