The Algerian and Russian armed forces are participating in joint military exercises, which began on Nov. 16, and will run till Nov. 28.
The joint anti-terrorist exercises, known as Desert Shield 2022, are taking place in the Hammaguir testing ground in Bechar Province, close to the Moroccan border. The military exercises involve around 200 soldiers from the counterterrorism units of both states.
“Atalayar” news outlet said these military activities do raise Europe’s concern, all the more so because they are close to Morocco. It said that such participation could destabilize the whole region.
The drills involve training to search, detect and eliminate terrorist groups in the desert setting.
