The Governing Council of the Community of Democracies, in which Morocco is a member state, expressed its solidarity with the Iranian people who are protesting against the oppression of Iranian authorities.
In a statement on Nov. 17, the body commended Iranian women whom are speaking out against gender-based discrimination, human rights violations and abuses, and the disproportionate use of force, calling for justice, accountability, and respect for human rights and dignity.
It called on the Iranian government to immediately stop all forms of violence against all of its people, and to meaningfully acknowledge and address the root causes of the legitimate grievances of the people of Iran, especially women.
“We also urge the Iranian government to stop trying to silence the people of Iran and instead allow them to communicate with each other and the world,” wrote the statement.
The body called on Iran to allow access to the country for UN Human Rights Special Procedures mandate holders, notably the Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
