Morocco was elected member to the Standing Committee of the Convention on Wetlands “RAMSAR”, as representative of the North African sub-region over the period of 2022-2025.
The election took place on the sidelines of the 14th Conference of the Parties (COP14), which was held in hybrid mode in Wuhan (China) and Geneva (Switzerland) on November 5-13.
Through this new position, Morocco will help voice the region’s difficulties related to African wetlands conservation and restoration.
On the occasion of COP14, the RAMSAR Convention awarded the city of Ifrane the “Wetland City Accreditation”.
The event provided an opportunity to discuss good practices and innovative solutions for wetlands recovery, and survey the 2020-2030 Moroccan Forests Strategy.
A fringe event was held by the National Agency for Water and Forests (ANEF) on Moroccan wetlands, and attended by a host of figures from African and Mediterranean countries, as well as international organizations.
