The Algerian justice system has handed on Monday a life sentence, in absentia, to head of the Kabylia Self-Determination Movement (MAK) Ferhat Mehenni over terror charges.
According to the Algerian news agency, the first instance court sentenced Mehenni to life imprisonment over the charges of creating a terrorist organization and undermining the country’s unity and security.
According to the same source, MAK leader Belaabes Brahim also received a life sentence verdict, while MAK members Lafdhal Zidane and Boutegrabet Mounir were sentenced to 20 years in prison.
The same court passed a judgment in favor of the international arrest warrant issued against these four individuals, who are currently outside the Algerian territory.
