An explosion targeted on Sunday the Istkilal avenue, in Taksim Square at the heart of Istanbul, leaving 4 dead and 38 others injured, local governor and witnesses reported.
According to news agency “Reuters”, people were seen fleeing the explosion site and running for their lives. The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation into the explosion.
Although the explosion’s cause is still unknown, Kurdish separatists, Islamist militants, and other groups have previously targeted Istanbul and other Turkish cities.
A broadcast embargo was imposed by Turkey’s RTUK regulator one hour after the blast.
