In the context of the celebrations of the 47th anniversary of the Green March “Al-Massira Al-Khadra”, Barlaman Today interviewed Dr. Hmida Maaroufi, Director of Status and Historical Studies of HCAR (High Commission for Former Resistance Fighters and Former Members of the Liberation Army), to learn more about the strong ties between the Moroccan people and their kings, on the one hand; and discover more about the process of Moroccan resistance against the French and Spanish colonization, and the means that Moroccans used to acquire independence, especially the decolonization process of the Sahara’s region that was unique, on the other hand.
The Green March involved more than 350,000 marchers from different regions of Morocco. They liberated their land and reunited the Saharan provinces to the homeland using Quran as a form of insistence on Islam base, which is “peace.” Therefore, it was called the Green March. They also used the Moroccan flag as a form of patriotism.
Mr. Maarofi presented the Contemporain history of Morocco, illustrating the attachment of the Moroccans to their Nation and their land, in addition to the solid relation between Moroccans and their Kings. Those values and principles show Moroccans’ patriotism they have now and then, regardless of the circumstances.
He highlighted how the HCAR celebrates this event. They organize conferences, rhetorical festivals, and festivities to pay tribute to the resistance veterans and members of the Liberation Army and publish books and articles about this great event.
