Morocco was ranked 100th in the Social Progress Index out of 169 countries included in this ranking, which is based on an assessment of citizens’ welfare and basic needs.
The results of the Social Progress Index 2022 were announced in a report published by the American Social Progress Imperative. Morocco ranked low even in the 2019 classification where it occupied 82nd place out of 149 countries.
Morocco ranked low at 107th in terms of the welfare index, which measures citizens’ access to basic knowledge and communication as well as access to information, health, and the environment.
Morocco placed 78th in terms of citizens’ basic needs, given its qualifications in providing nutrition and medical care, as well as quality water and hygiene, and citizens’ security.
In terms of personal rights and freedom of choice index, Morocco was ranked 110th, owing to its specificities associated with an individual’s access to higher education.
It should be noted that Norway ranked first in this classification, followed by a group of Scandinavian countries such as Denmark, Finland, Switzerland, and Iceland, while sub-Saharan African countries such as Somalia, Eritrea, Chad, the Central African Republic, and South Sudan were ranked last, which measures the countries’ social and environmental performance without relying on the economic factor.
