The coordination of Morocco’s road transport unions called on the Head of government, Aziz Akhannouch, to intervene to resolve the crisis afflicting the sector following the continued dramatic rise in fuel prices.
The same coordination threatened, in a statement that Barlaman Today has, that it will go on a national strike that will be announced at a later date, noting that the high prices, especially fuel prices, have “deepened the suffering of professionals in the absence of any structured action that can get this sector out of a state of anticipation marked by a loss of hope for any real reform.”
According to our source, “the funding allocated to professionals in order to mitigate the price rise has not met its expected purpose, since it does not cover the increase, knowing that some professionals have not received payments,” adding that “not only that, others have not received any payment to date, along with some other problems that have accompanied the registration and funding process”.
Within this situation’s context, the Coordination of Morocco’s road transport unions called on Akhannouch to use his “political and constitutional powers and take all measures that would revitalize the sector, including strengthening actions that contribute to ensuring genuine competitiveness in the fuel sector, as well as operationalizing those included in the recent report of the Competition Council.”
Furthermore, the coordination has called for “an increase in the financial value of the support fund, awaiting the price-fixing of fuels for professionals in the short term, and the opening of a genuine dialogue that takes into account genuine sectoral representativeness.”
