The memorandum of the Draft Finance Bill 2023 stated that auto exports transactions amounted to 66.7 billion dirhams at the end of August 2022, compared to 51.58 billion dirhams during the same period in 2021, which is equivalent to an increase of 29.3% percent.
This memorandum explained that the exports of the automotive sector continued to grow despite the crisis, reaching 83.54 billion dirhams in 2021, a rise of 15.6 percent compared to 2020, at a time when Morocco’s current ranking as the first automotive exporter to the European Union (EU) was confirmed.
The same source added that the automotive industry has strengthened its position in the global value chains of the automotive industry with an annual production capacity of 700,000 thousand cars, driven by the momentum of the performance of the manufacturers of “Renault” and “Stelantis”, exceeding the 2020 target of 600,000 thousand vehicles.
Thus, Morocco ranked second in Africa’s automotive manufacturing after South Africa, noting that cars produced in Morocco are marketed in more than 74 global destinations, and the domestic integration rate for the automotive industry has reached 63% percent.
It is worth saying that this sector has created more than 180,000 thousand job opportunities since 2014, and has more than 250 manufacturers and equipment suppliers nationally and internationally.
For “Stelantis”, the first half of 2022 was marked by the launch of the Citroën Ami 225 (225 Citroën AMI) on June 14, 2022.
As for the production level, the total number of cars manufactured at the end of August 2021 amounted to a total of 95 Alpha ,442 “Peugeot”, and 10,866 “O2X” cars. While the “Renault” factory produced 232 Alpha and 643 cars at the end of August 2022.
