On the Ain El Turk beach, close to Oran, the Algerian Navy opened fire on four civilians on early Saturday.
Local sources claim that the departure of a boat carrying 12 unauthorized immigrants of different nationalities from the shore toward Spain’s coasts caused this sad tragedy.
According to the same sources, instead of resorting to the conventional ways of thwarting this clandestine immigration attempt, Algerian navy agents fired indiscriminately, causing the death of four people, among which is a family: a mother, a father, and a young child accompanying them.
Another victim was the 30-year-old Moroccan woman from Ahfir, who was shot dead by the Algerian Navy. Three bodies were retrieved and sent to the dead’s warehouse at Ain El Turk. The search and recovery mission is still underway to find other bodies.
This heinous act was widely condemned by a human rights association in Nador. The association shared a Facebook post with an attached image of the young Moroccan victim stating that the latter had left the Ahfir area in Oran’s direction two months earlier.
