The protests began to intensify in Tunisia in the past few days, moving to several working-class districts and protesting against the deteriorating living conditions in the country. This is blamed on President Kaïs Saïed’s new constitution that concentrated power in his hands. Adding fuel to the fire, people found the body of a woman and her child in the “Jarjis” area of the province of Medenine, who died after on board an illegal migration boat.
Many regions of the country are witnessing strong protests, calling on the Tunisian authorities to expedite the search for missing persons on illegal immigration flights whose bodies Tunisian authorities failed to recover. Tunisians are facing death in the sea after some chose illegal migration to escape the “policy from hell” of Kaïs Saïed.
Some neighborhoods in the capital Tunis have experienced confrontations and clashes for days over the killing of a schoolboy as the police chased him. The Malasin neighborhood, just a few meters away from the Tunisian Government Palace, witnessed violent confrontations the night of the 20th of October, during which protesters threw stones at security agents who retaliated by using tear bombs.
The confrontations did not stop in the Malasin neighborhood, they were also happening in other areas where the protesters threw stones at security forces, blocked roads, and set rubber wheels on fire.
The Tunisian people seem determined to bring down President Kaïs Saïed, who is driving the country towards bankruptcy and is seeking to turn it into a ‘protectorate’ of Algeria.
