The Senegalese Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Equipment, and Food Sovereignty received 25.000 tons of phosphate products from the OCP Group to benefit Senegalese small farmers.
The 25K tons of phosphate products comprise 10.000 tons of DAP (Diammonium Phosphate) and 5,000 tons of TSP (Triple Super Phosphate), and 10,000 tons of fertilizers that will be sold at reduced prices. This donation was given based on High Royal Instructions aimed to support Senegal’s food sovereignty policy and fight food insecurity.
Aly Ngouille Ndiaye, the Senegalese Minister of Agriculture, Rural Equipment, and Food Sovereignty, Mohamed Benzekri, the Director of OCP Africa/Senegal subsidiary, the Ambassador of Morocco to Senegal, Hassan Naciri, and the central directors of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Equipment, and Food Sovereignty of Senegal all attended the ceremony for the official handover of this donation.
Ambassador Hassan Naciri stated that this fraternal donation of phosphate products reflects “the close ties of blood, spirituality, solidarity and deep conviction of the uniqueness of our destiny and our common future.” He added that this fraternal and concrete action is part of the historic mobilizations of the Kingdom of Morocco towards Senegal and African brotherly countries, recalling that Morocco has shown solidarity during the Ebola epidemic and the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Senegalese Minister of Agriculture paid tribute to King Mohammed VI for his actions and initiatives of solidarity, especially in this difficult situation, indicating that this donation is part of the fraternal relationship between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Senegal.
The minister went on to state that this fraternal relationship is reflected in the close cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Equipment and Food Sovereignty and OCP, a world leader in fertilizers, through agreements and technical activities related to soil fertility and fertilizers, adding that this donation comes after a complex global context due to the high cost of fertilizers.
He also pointed out that this donation will help Senegalese small farmers to reduce production costs given the high price of fertilizers, increase national production, and to fight the high cost of living by improving the availability of agricultural products.
Praising this act of inter-African solidarity in a problematic geopolitical context, Mr. Ngouille Ndiaye also praised the exemplary technical and strategic partnership between his department and the OCP Group.
He expressed in this regard the most sincere thanks to King Mohammed VI on behalf of President Macky Sall, the government, and the Senegalese people.
As part of this donation, Senegalese farmers will benefit from training on good agricultural practices, specific recommendations for quality fertilizers, and financing solutions through a mobile laboratory made available to them by OCP Africa.
