The case of the rape and murder of Lola, a 12-year-old girl in France, has gotten the attention of internet users in several countries, including France, Belgium, Switzerland, and Morocco.
It dates back to October 14, 2022, when the victim was found in a trunk in the courtyard of the building where her parents live in the 19th arrondissement of Paris. According to the french media, the police arrested four suspects, all born in Algeria, and one of them is a homeless man, all of them are in custody.
Since the macabre discovery, several extreme right-wing personalities, notably the “rassemblement national” and “reconquête”, have expressed their anger by linking the prevailing insecurity in France to immigration. This case has taken a political turn because of the profiles and origins of the four people in custody, knowing that the main suspect, “Dahbia”, was under an unenforced obligation to leave the territory.
Reacting, the Minister of the Interior, Gerald Darmanin, lamented what he called a political recuperation by the extreme right of the murder of the young schoolgirl, denouncing the “indecency” of a certain fringe of the political class.
Thus, under the hashtags “#Justicepourlola” and “#Lola12”, French internet users have agreed to criticize the French government as cowardly and irresponsible, considering that this tragedy is a direct consequence of their tolerance towards immigration, noting that immigrants commit 90% of the crimes and offenses in France and turn this country into hell, before calling for massive participation in the rally in front of the city hall of the 19th in Paris planned for October 20, in tribute to all victims of immigration.
The tweet of the French President in memory of the massacre of Algerians on October 17, 1961, has added fuel to the fire in the sense that internet users judged that instead of being compassionate with the victim and her family, Macron pays homage to Algerians of whom four are suspected in the rape and murder of the young schoolgirl.
In the same vein, the RN deputy Gard Pierre Meurin commented: “at the moment when Lola was murdered by savages born in Algeria, the President chose his memorial priorities. I am ashamed, so ashamed.” While the vice-president of “reconquête,” Guillaume Peltier, wrote: “and the truth about the murder of Lola, are you interested, Emmanuel Macron ?”
It should be noted that the mention “Lola” rose to second place in the list of Twitter trends in France, to seventh place in Belgium, to 18th place in the Netherlands, and sixth place in Morocco, accounting for 450,337 tweets, 293,120,100 mentions “likes” and 25,490,265 “retweets” for 73,289,125 people reached.
