King Mohammed VI delivered a speech before the members of the two Houses of Parliament, in which the Sovereign deemed it appropriate to focus on two critical questions: the first concerns the issue of water and the urgent and future challenges related to it, while the second stresses the need to make a qualitative leap in promoting investment.
Regarding the first question, the Sovereign called for a diligent treatment of the problem of water, in all its dimensions, and in particular for a break with all forms of waste or anarchic and irresponsible exploitation of this vital resource, stressing that the problem of water should not be used as a pretext for political outbidding, nor as an argument to stoke social tensions.
“As Moroccans, we should all exert greater efforts to ensure rational, responsible use of water,” said the King, stressing that “this requires a real change in our behavior regarding water. In this respect, public administrations and institutions should lead by example”.
Referring to the second component, King Mohammed VI emphasized the interest that the Sovereign attaches to investment, stressing that everyone should remain “mobilized and commit to a keen sense of responsibility to promote this sector, which is critical importance for our country’s development.”
“Today, we are counting on productive investment as a lever for boosting our economy and making sure our country engages in the promising sectors,” the King underlined. “I expect the new investment charter to significantly enhance Morocco’s attractiveness as far as domestic and foreign investment is concerned,” the Sovereign added.
To achieve the desired objectives, the Sovereign urged the government, in partnership with the private and banking sectors, to translate their respective commitments into a “national investment contract scheme,” noting that the latter aims to raise 550 billion dirhams for investment and create 500,000 jobs between 2022 and 2026.
