True to their internationally recognized expertise and outstanding performance, the Kingdom’s security services continue to deploy great efforts to thwart attempts of drug trafficking, irregular migration, and more, to protect public order, safety, and security.
Drug Trafficking
From September 14th to October 15th, Morocco’s law enforcement was able to arrest 77 people involved in drug trafficking with a total quantity of 6.9 tonnes of drugs, detailed below, in addition to 1940 psychotropic pills and/or tablets.
Red Notices and Terrorist Activities
On October 4th, the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigation in a joint and simultaneous security operation with the Spanish General Commissariat of Judiciary Police, was able to dismantle a terrorist cell active in both Nador and Melilia, suspected of being linked to the so-called “Islamic State”. Investigations conducted also revealed that the alleged emir of this terrorist cell had links to the cell dismantled in December 2019 in both the suburbs of Madrid and Nador, in a joint operation carried out by the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance and its Spanish counterpart.
The Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) arrested an extremist supporter of the terrorist group “Daesh” for his alleged involvement in the planning of a terrorist project intended to seriously undermine public order. The suspect was looking for safe routes to terrorist organizations, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa and the Syrian-Iraqi scene, according to preliminary results information from the investigation. In order to target security checkpoints and use their service weapons in terrorist operations, he also conducted reconnaissance visits to identify certain security checkpoints.
The General Directorate for National Security (DGSN) arrested a foreign citizen in Tangier Med Port as he was attempting to enter the national territory illegally, hidden inside a trailer connected to an international transport truck that was coming from a Spanish port.
The suspect turned out to be a 42-year-old British citizen, wanted by the British judiciary for serious crimes related to intentional homicide and violating the legislation related to the possession and use of firearms.
The services of the National Brigade of the Judicial Police arrested a drug baron alias ‘Zekroum’, the subject of 67 wanted notices issued against him by the police and the Royal Gendarmerie for “illicit trafficking of narcotics.”
In Safi, Morocco’s police services arrested a Dutch citizen, the subject of a red notice from Interpol, suspected to be linked to a criminal network active in drug trafficking on an international level. The suspect is currently in custody.
Irregular Migration
On irregular migrations, over 2,005 prospective irregular migrants, Moroccans, Algerians, Palestinian, and sub-Saharans, were arrested at different checkpoints in the Kingdom.
Gender-based and Child Violence
Gender-based and child violence counts 13 victims, among which are deaths, rapes, and threats of disseminating pornographic content.
Unusual Deaths
Morocco’s security services recorded a total of 24 unusual deaths, among which are 5 human remains and 1 child.
Suicide and Suicide Attempts
Morocco recorded 17 suicides, one of them was a minor, and 3 suicide attempts were halted by Moroccon law enforcement.
Ammunition
The ammunition seized by the authorities from September 14th to October 15th included 200 smoke grenades, a large quantity of Petard, a shotgun, a rusty bullet, a tear gas bomb, a rusty shell (projectile), a projectile ball, an air gun, a rusty grenade, 36 small-sized gas cylinders filled with Nitrous Oxide, and 499 units of electric explosives detonators.
