President Biden told Jake Tapper in an interview that was aired on “CNN Tonight” that he is currently focused on the November elections after which he will be making decisions on his own political future.
“I’m not going to make this about my decision. I’m going to make it about the coming off-year election. After it is done in November, then I’m going to be in the process of deciding,” President Biden stated during the CNN interview.
He went on to affirm that he intends to run for reelection, but that he respects fate and will discuss this decision with his family, CNN reports.
According to a CNN poll dating from July, 75% of Democratic and Democratic-leading voters say they do not want Biden to run for reelection in 2024, but rather another candidate, 17% of them said they wanted another nominee due to Biden’s age, who will be 80 years old in November.
When President Biden was asked whether one of his considerations in determining whether to run for reelection or not was if “you think you’re the only one who can beat Donald Trump,” he responded: “yes, I believe I can beat Donald Trump again.”
On Tuesday, November 8, 2022, the midterm elections will take place. For the Republican Party, led by former President Donald Trump, and Joe Biden’s Democratic Party, which now holds a majority in both chambers, it would be quite the challenge.
