This year, the Jewish holiday of Succot coincided with the Muslim commemoration of Mawlid. Sharaka, an Israeli NGO, organized an evening celebration of these two holidays in partnership with Morocco Coexistence on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at the Hotel Sofitel in Rabat.
In attendance were ninety hand-picked guests for this celebration, politicians, ambassadors, diplomats, and artists alike. The event was particularly marked by the first official appearance of the interim head of the liaison office of Israel in Morocco, Alona Fisher-Kamm, who replaced David Govrin in September.
Wearing a pin inscribed with the Moroccan and Israeli flags, the interim head of the liaison office marks by her presence the beginning of what appears to be her new role on a permanent rather than just “interim” basis, as was reported last month.
Mrs. Alona Fisher-Kamm spoke eloquently to wish the guests happy holidays. She recalled the symbolic importance of such a common celebration for both communities.
She then quickly fit in with the guests with spontaneity and seemed to be at ease in the purely Moroccan atmosphere letting herself be lulled by the rhythm of the Moroccan music played during the event.
The Sharaka event then resumed in a pleasant inter-community ambiance and throughout the evening excerpts from his Majesty’s speech of March 30, 2019, were broadcast on a giant screen reminding the guests that “Morocco has never ceased to teach and live the brotherhood of the sons of Abraham daily.”
The investigation around Govrin seems to be taking longer than expected and one can only be glad that such a straightforward woman is taking control and is trying to fix the “previous” chief’s mess.
