The Algerian Press Media “Shoroq” mentioned yesterday that police services seized a truck loaded with 6 tons of donkey meat, destined for human consumption. The truck was coming from Oran and heading to Sidi Bel Abbes to distribute it to some butchers, as admitted by the driver after his arrest.
Some butchers were called for investigations. Many fast-food shops and known restaurants were buying meat from those butchers accused of selling donkey meat in Sidi Bel Abbes.
The investigation is still in the process. This meat was bought at lower prices than usual. The buyers are insisting on the fact they did not know what the source of the meat was.
This issue is coming at the same time when there is a shortage of milk in most Algerian cities. This can attest to the failure of the Military regime to provide their markets with foodstuffs, especially basic ones.
