Hundreds of Iranian diaspora and French activists took to the streets of Paris on Sunday, in solidarity with the protest movement in Iran sparked by Amini’s death. Protests in Turkey witnessed Iranian passports torn apart and a number of women cut their hair in protest against the restriction of freedoms. Protests were organized on Saturday in cities around the world in solidarity with Iran’s protest movement, such as in Los Angeles.
This comes as Human Rights Watch announced on Sunday that the death toll from protests in Iran had risen to 133.
Popular protests continue, with several Iranian cities witnessing night rallies that went on till dawn on Sunday. In the Iranian city of Saqqez in the Kurdistan region, the birthplace of Mahsa Amini, who died in the custody of the Iranian morality police, hundreds of Iranians demonstrated against repressions and the use of violence by Iranian security forces. The city of Sanandadj in Kurdistan province also witnessed angry demonstrations during which protesters demanded a halt to arrests and violence against protesters.
Protests erupted following the announcement that Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian Kurdish who died three days after her arrest for violating Iran’s strict dress code.
