Cecil Beal, an author at US magazine Newslooks, underscored Morocco’s position in the international sphere in his opinion piece about America’s allies. As a major non-NATO ally, the Kingdom of Morocco has long entertained stellar relations with the United States based on cooperation on key transnational issues and mutual respect and admiration.
As a result of these strong bilateral ties, Cecil Beal recalled that “Morocco is indeed a country that is being targeted by proxy by regional powers, and other international powers, who are not satisfied with Moroccan American cooperation, especially after Morocco was able to convince the international community of the seriousness and realism of its proposal for autonomy plan in the Sahara.”
The expert lauded Morocco’s involvement in the Morocco-Nigeria gas pipeline stating that this begets the question: “How is it possible that we are not the first investor in this giant project and the first to provide it with support and protection against any attempt to undermine or sabotage it?” Responding to his own questions, he said: “I cannot find a convincing answer to justify this absence.”
Weighing on food security, he mentioned Morocco’s herculean efforts in providing the African continent with fertilizers and preventing desertification stating that it “is considered by some European countries, that dominate African markets, as commercial competition.” This statement echoes that of King Mohammed VI who stated in his speech to the Nation on the occasion of the 68th anniversary of the Revolution of the King and the People that “Regrettably, a few countries, especially European ones, which are traditional partners, fear for their economic interests, markets, and spheres of influence in the Maghreb region.”
Cecil Beal urged the United States to protect their interests by protecting those of its allies, among which is Morocco.
