Gunshots were heard in the neighborhood of Burkina Faso’s presidential palace and its Military Council, which took power following a coup last January, in Ouagadougou.
According to Al-Jazeera, witnesses reported that heavy gunfire came from the army’s main camp and some Burkina Faso residential areas, early on Friday morning. The same source added that several armed soldiers were seen on the main road leading to the presidential palace and in some administrative buildings and the headquarters of the national television, which stopped broadcasting. Adding that several road axes in the capital were blocked that day by military troops.
The same source stated that Burkina Faso’s interim president, Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, promised to make security a priority in his country, which has been exposed to armed attacks for years.
