Morocco and the United States of America signed in Vienna a joint declaration on strengthening cooperation in the field of preparedness and response to radiological and nuclear emergencies.
This declaration was signed on the sidelines of the 66th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency, held in Vienna until September 30th. The signature is within the framework of Morocco’s long-standing partnership with the United States in the field of radiological and nuclear emergency preparedness and response.
Signed by Azzedine Farhane, Ambassador of Morocco and Permanent Representative of the Kingdom to the International Organizations in Vienna, and Jill Hruby, the Under Secretary of Energy for Nuclear Security, the declaration states that the United States recognizes Morocco’s substantial contribution as the head of the “Response and Mitigation” affiliated with the Global Initiative Counter-Nuclear Terrorism working group and coordinator of the “Implementation and Evaluation” group for the period 2019-2021.
The declaration also emphasizes the long-term partnership in radiation emergency response cooperation (Exercise ConvEx-3) between the National Centre of Energy, Science and Nuclear Technology and the Directorate General of Civil Prevention.
It also notes the willingness of the US Department of Energy to further strengthen cooperation with Moroccan sectors that deal with challenges linked to preparedness and response to radiological emergencies.
